Lucy Peoples

On August 23, 1941, in the small dusty little town of Plainview, TX the world became a better and brighter place when it welcomed into the world Edna Lucille “Lucy” Sims - Peoples. Lucy was born the fifth child of six to Roy Sims and Mary (Morsbagh) Sims. In the fall of 1957, Lucy met a handsome young man just out of the military. After a short six-month romance, Lucy and Ira “Dale” Peoples were married on March 12, 1958, in Plainview, TX. The marriage brought three children into the world. Peggy Sue (Susie), Timmy Dale and Mary D’Anne (Ddee). The family made their home in Amarillo, TX until moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1970 for a year before calling home to Moriarity, NM. In 1977, Lucy, Dale, Timmy, and Ddee moved to Henryetta, OK which would become Lucy and Dale’s forever home. Lucy loved life, she loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her many friends and extended family members. She called all of her children her “pigs’ which often caused confused looks from people the first time she referred to her kids and grandkids as her “pigs”! Lucy was an excellent writer and published several books. For over 25 years Lucy was the smiling face at the Hungry Traveler Restaurant in Henryetta, OK. Lucy’s smile, quick wit, and never-ending energy made her a favorite of the locals and those just passing through. What people will remember the most about Lucy was that she was a praying woman. She loved the Lord with all her heart, she looked for the best in everyone and if she told you she would pray for you, it was done. Her Faith was her strength, and her words were always full of truth. The Nazarene Church was a second home for Lucy, and she enjoyed singing in the choir, trips with her church gals and teaching bible school to the little ones. Lucy left this world peacefully on January 2, 2023, in Corn, OK, with her daughter Ddee and granddaughter Marcie by her side having said goodbye to grandchildren Melissa, Lacey and Charlie earlier. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Dale, son Timmy, her parents Roy and Mary, sister Louise Tiery and brothers Frank, Leroy, and Johnny. She is survived by Daughters: Susie King of New Mexico, Ddee Haynes and husband Mitchell of Hydro, OK. Grandchildren: Amber Metlock and husband Rueban of CA, Marcie Fenimore of Choctaw, OK, David Pickard of CA, Charlie Peoples of Okmulgee, Melissa Stewart and husband Reno of Wynnewood, OK, Lacey Prevett and husband Zack of Dewar, Hattie Haynes of Hydro, OK, Brother James Sims and wife Georgann, and Sister-in-Law Anita Sims all of Lubbock, TX Great Grandchildren: Alexis, Calista, Madelynn, Bentley, Xzavier, Owen, Knox, Gannon, Stoney Ray and Kodi Belle Brother: James and wife Georgianna Sims Sister In Law; Anita Sims. Service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 7, 2022 at the Nazarene Church with Pastor Bob Lothenore and Pastor Lowell Churchill. Interment will follow at the Senora Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
