John Kerr

John Anderson Kerr was born November 15, 1939 in Dewar, Oklahoma to Thomas and Juanita (Crosby) Kerr. He passed from this life on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Juanita, his son John Chuck Kerr, his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Dodge and his like-a-brother Carlton Dodge. John graduated from Dewar High School in 1958. A standout athlete for the Dragons, he was even offered a scholarship to play college football. John married Margie Mangrum in 1958. Two children were born to this union, Teresa and Chuck. In 1989, John married Wilma Cantrell Floyd and gained a son and a daughter, Jimmy and Julie. John's childhood was spent with his favorite grandfather, John Crosby. Summers on Beaver Mountain in Haskell county was spent with Grandpa. Young John spent many hours in the woods learning to hunt with his Uncle John Henry. His love of hounds began at that time, and continued for most of his life until he was no longer able to care for dogs. He was the happiest when he was in the woods chasing a racoon with Doyle Burden, or running rabbits with Joe Peavler. From coon hounds to beagles, he loved the sound of the hunt, with a good bawl mouthed bluetick being his favorite sound. John’s love of guns and hunting was passed down to all his grandsons. John's paternal grandfather was a Scottish immigrant, coming from the Old Country in the early 1900's. His Scottish traits of a strong mind, (some call it stubbornness), a good work ethic and family importance was passed down to John. John also loved horses, even trying his hand at calf roping. Many miles and many hours were spent at local roping’s, as well as at the local brush arena with friends. His favorite tv channel was the Cowboy Channel where he could watch rodeos all year long. A hard worker and a dependable employee, John had jobs from PPG, to propane truck driver, and was a long-time devoted employee of Colley and Company in Henryetta until his retirement. His most notable and historic employment was working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 1976. He had many stories of mountains and snow and bears on the right-of-way. There were many important dates in John’s life, but none more important than April 1, 2020, when he became a baptized believer.” John leaves behind a loving wife of 36 years, Wilma; daughter Teresa Lewis (Jerry), daughter Julie Aldridge (Richard), son Jimmy Floyd (Leah Ann). Also, ten grandchildren including Colt Kerr, Ian Lewis, Travis Lewis (Dottie), Kayla Jones (Beau), Reagan Kerr, Savannah Kerr, Brandon Floyd (Shannon), Garrett Floyd (Brylee), Rhett Aldridge (Tempest), Garret Taylor. John was blessed with 12 great grandchildren. Pallbearers include Ian Lewis, Travis Lewis, Colt Kerr, Beau Jones, Brandon Floyd, Garrett Floyd, Rhett Aldridge, Richard Aldridge, Garret Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Lewis, Doyle Burden, Joe Peavler, Larry Pitts, Clifford Porter, Jack Cantrell, Jim Hill. Graveside service will be 10:30 am, March 20, 2026 at the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
